Today my class and I had to create invitations which included all the relevant information for the event like, time, dat and location. We also had to create it so it hooked people in visually and make it age appealing. My fisrt one was a girly theme and my second one was more set around the location.

My Treasure Box- Book

The village is bombed we have nowhere to go, running through houses trying not to panic. I am not safe. As I sense the smell of smoke drifting through my nostrils I am so petrified. Escaping from the enemy hearing children cry, what will I do next? As we were getting ready to leave the village, dad started to cough. I was worried, hoping it wasn’t my last time with him. We packed all our things as quickly as possible. As we hear the bombs explode non-stop. Blankets, pillows, clothes, we packed as many as we could, trying not to make anything heavy. We see people walking out, fleeing the village, we run to them and joined their group. As days pass by I realise that my father is becoming weaker and weaker. We all gathered together in an old small damp shed. Everyone starts resting and my father gets up and tells me that “you must be brave for both of us. Promise me you will keep this treasure safe”. “I promise” I said, and I gripped my father’s hand as he gives me a book of our people covered in a thick old cloth. I hold him close through the long night, knowing that he won’t wake up ever again. Wrapping my father in his favourite bed sheet we get ready to bury him. I stand speechless holding my father's treasure as everyone says their last goodbyes. I am happy that he doesn’t have to go through any more pain but I have no one else now. Walking away in despair feeling miserable I can hear my people telling me to leave the treasure box and hurry as they can hear the enemies coming our way. Standing in disbelief whether I should leave my suitcase or the treasure. My conscience is telling me to leave the treasure, but my heart is aching to take the treasure. I’ve made my decision I’m going to leave my suitcase. Walking for miles finding it hard to carry the box, my back aching and I’m suddenly starting to have sore feet. I start to look, to find a safe place to hide the treasure, I walk past a big linden tree. I bury it under the linden tree and there I hope to find it again. A decade later, I’m becoming very ill and sick. I am always thinking of my fathers treasure. I wonder if it is still there. I thought I should go back to get the treasure. I travelled back to the old village where I buried it. When I arrived at the village it looked unfamiliar and unique. I went to the old linden tree and there was a small cabin next to it. Walking towards it I see a little girl swinging on the tree. I told her that there was a special book buried under the tree. She helped me dig it up and when she saw that it was just a book she said “it’s just a stupid book.” I said that this book is a book of our people and it is rarer than rubies, more splendid than silver and greater than gold. I let her read some of the pages and as she was reading I cried because I just felt that I my dad was talking to me. Afterwards I decided to have a walk with her and then I went home, back to my old village. Waking up to another day in my old village I thought that I should go and return the treasure back to the library. As I walked into the library there was an old lady sitting in a wheelchair, she asked if she could see the book, as it looked familiar. I gave it to her and she said that this was her favourite book back in the olden days but when the library got bombed she was unable to find it. I left the library knowing that the book really was a treasure.

Father is sick!

Diary Entry 1 Father is Sick

As I lay down in the damp cold road with my father holding his warm tender hands. I fear for my father worried that is coming our way. As I let him go I feel weakened but I am hopeful. I know he's going to be in a better place now.

Diary Entry 2 The Burial Day

As I stand speechless holding my fathers treasure. My eyes search, I see the icy mud and soggy green grass surround my father. I sense the smell of my him as I take my last breathe around him. I just wished I could be with him and hug him one last time. I know he’s going to be in a better place now where he won’t be suffering anymore. As I am walking away I feel miserable. He was all that I had and now I just feel lost and lonely.

I AM NOT SAFE!

The Treasure Box
As I gather all my belongings together getting ready to leave I sense the smell of smoke drifting through my nostrils. Escaping from enemies hearing the cry for help I am so scared. As I am walking I see frightened people crying for help. I feel so angry because why would people want to do such harm. I AM NOT SAFE.

Endangered people break free from the carnage that they are leaving. They stumble and trip towards the doors of freedom. Entering a safe place finding a place to rest. I do not feel safe but there is no where else to go. There's a lot of noise around me, I can’t even sleep, babies crying, parents screaming and kids being confused. I can still hear my village getting bombed by the soldiers I feel so furious I just wished I can get revenge on them but How?

The Next day comes by and I wake up to an idea I can get revenge. Gathering my people we make a plan as we start to move we hear the soldiers coming our way. We run as quietly as possible, but sadly one of our people got shot. We had to move quickly to ensure we were safe again. Our plan had to change for sure we had to go over the mountains and get cover in the forests. It took us five to seven days to arrive at our destination, away from all the tragedy and suffering back home.

Ear Digram

The Pinna or the outer ear, funnels sound vibrations into the ear canal. The sound waves hit the Ear Drum, a membrane (thin layer of skin) at the end of the ear canal, which vibrates. The vibrations move the Ossicles, three small bones that make that make the sound louder. They send sound waves to the cochlea. The Cochlea is filled with fluid, which ripples with the sound waves and moves tiny hair shaped cells called cilia. Cilia transform the vibrations into electrical impulses. The Auditory Nerve send these impulses to the brain, which translates the signals into the sounds you hear.

Manaiakalani Learner Questionaire!

This afternoon I was able to complete the Manaiakalani Learner Questionaire about Create Learn and Share. I found the Culture question diffcult because we only learn about Te Reo Maori. The question I found easy was the subjects we learn about in school.

Sailing At Okahu Bay!

On Wednesday the 1st of May 2019, Room 8 went on a Rotary sponsored sailing day. We went because our class got the opportunity to learn how to sail. We sailed at Okahu Bay, near Mission Bay. It was cold and hot at the same time because I was wearing three t-shirts two jumpers and sweats. I was so excited to go and I couldn’t wait because I had already experienced going sailing.

First we had to get to school before 9:00 am because our bus was leaving. When I got to school everyone was wearing shorts and sweats. Very shortly everyone was on the bus and we were off. When we were going on the bus we went past many different schools like Tamaki Primary, Ruapotaka school and Tamaki college.

Soon after, we arrived at Okahu Bay we were greeted by three instructors Steve, Justin and JR. We first learnt how to rig our optimist, which was our boat. We learnt about the different parts of our optimist which were the boom, mast, figure eight knot, tiller, rudder and the centre board. Before we could go down to the shore we had to put on wetsuits that were so tight! Luckily I could fit into my one.

Finally we were off to sail. I was the one that was controlling where our boat was going to and my partner was holding the figure eight knot so that the sail came in and we could go faster. After a good two hours I was so hot and tired and ready to eat lunch. After lunch we were going back to sail and have more fun. This time we had to capsize our boats. We got a little head start by one of the instructors JR. He took us back to shore on his IRB... he went really fast and it was so amazing.
When we got to shore other boats were still tipping over and it was really funny to watch them. In a short time our optimist had to capsize and when it was being capsized my partner couldn’t breathe. The IRB boat had to come to rescue, it was so tiring having to flip our optimist back over but in the end it was fun. Soon my partner and I were feeling a bit sick and we headed back to our teachers and got changed first while the other students were still capsizing.

When everyone was ready we headed back to school, I was exhausted. I had so much fun and I hope that I can go again.

Many thanks to the Lion Foundation, Rotary, Volvo and Zhik for sponsoring the day.

I Had Lots of Fun Making Play Dough!

Making Green Glittery Play Dough

On the 18th of March 2019, my group and I made green glittery play dough. We made it because it was Saint Patrick's Day.

First we put all our dry ingredients together in a saucepan and mixed it altogether. Then we added the boiling water, together with 2 Tbsp of oil. When we mixed it together it looked all green and doughy. I got to wear a hygienic surgical glove to mix it with.

Once our playdough was ready to play with our teacher gave us some green shiny glitter to fashion up our boring green playdough. It was enjoyable for me to mix because it felt like slime.

Then we played a game with the playdough where we had to create a maze. My group made a massive spiral. Soon we were given a white foam polystyrene ball and a coloured straw to blow around our massive spiral maze. I found the maze difficult because the foam ball kept on going back to the start.

I had lots of fun making playdough as it was my first time. My favourite part was using the hygienic surgical glove to mix the playdough.

Why should we be hygienic and wash our hands

It’s important to be hygienic and wash our hands because it’s eliminates bacteria and diseases.
If we don’t wash our hands we can spread germs and cause other people to get sick, but if we do wash our hands we can be germ free. Keeping our hands clean decreases us from vomiting and getting sick.
When we wash our hands it prevents us from also infecting other people. If our hands are contaminated and we touch other people or peoples belongings they will now be contaminated. For example the spread of pinworm eggs. These eggs are transferred from animals to humans and humans to humans. By washing our hands we can break that cycle preventing further contamination.
Washing our hands makes us more hygienic and with less chance of contaminating ourselves and those around us.
