Nelson Mandela Biography


Nelson Mandela is former and first black president of South Africa. He was born in Mvezo, South Africa on the 18 of July 1918, and died on the 5 of December 2013. He has 4 daughters and 2 sons which equal to 6 children. Nelson's was most well known for being a writer and a president. The Nobel Peace Prize was won by Nelson Mandela in 1993. He took the education from Wesleyan College, Clarkebury Boarding Institute, University of London, University College of Fort Hare, University of Witwatersrand, and Johannesburg. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, is his full name.


The early life and family career of Nelson Mandela  was having the education at the college of Fort Hare and Wesleyan College with Oliver Tambo. Nelson Mandela was very good and focused when he was at school and during college. He enjoyed boxing and running. At Fort Hare University Nelson studied law and had left university at 1939 and after student protests about the way it was run. When Nelson's father had passed away, Nelson was still young at the age of 9 years old. Nelson Mandela was married three times and the first marriage ended in 1957,  the second which was divorced in 1996 and the last one at the age of 81 with Grace Machel. He retired from being a president because he wanted quiet and time to take off for family gatherings. He was baptised as a methodist.


Before Mandela was a president, he was put into jail for 27 years as known for a major reason. The reason why Mandela was in jail was facing the government that was committing serious bad human abuses against South Africans. He had been released from prison in the year of 1990 and went to lead the way for the abolition of apartheid in 1994. He was elected as South Africa's first black president the same year which was 1994.The most and best outstanding accomplishment after suffering years of abuse as he was in jail. When Nelson was set free, de Klerk agreed that there would be no more fighting which Nelson agreed to and was free from prison.


In 1991, Mandela became leader of the ANC. In the 1994 elections, all black people in South Africa were able to vote for the first time and the ANC won the election and a new government took over. In the month of May 1994, Nelson Mandela became South Africa's first black president. It was not until 1990 that Mandela was released. Shortly after his release from prison Nelson Mandela became ANC President. When black Africans were allowed to vote the ANC Mandela led party won the election and Nelson Mandela became the first black President of South Africa.Through and with Nelson Mandela, ANC finally won the victory they had envisaged for so long. When Mandela stepped down from the presidency in 1999 it was to ANC president Thabo Mbeki.


 Nelson Mandela has lived for many years and went through many lifetime stories that were important to himself and his family. Nelson Mandela was the first and foremost black South African president.
